Vanadium Oxide V2O5

  • Rarely used metallic oxide
  • Melts at 1274°F
  • Usually introduced as vanadium pentoxide
    • Orange crystal that produces weak yellow colors
    • Often combined with tin, in commercial stains
  • Very strong flux
  • Soluble in water
  • Volatility at higher temps creates toxic fumes, so be sure to take appropriate safety precautions
  • Source of vanadium oxide is vanadium pentoxide.
