Remember that this process only works with greenware clay at any stage. It does not work for clay that has already gone through the firing process.
Materials Needed
- Plaster slab for drying Clay
- Bone Dry Clay
- If you are reclaiming clay after wheel throwing use the dry (leather hard or bone dry) clay and use the “slip” from your throwing bucket as well as you need to add the fine particles as well
- 5 gallon bucket
- Water
- Drill
- Drill attachment
Steps
- In a 5 gallon buck or other appropriate sized container add your bone dry clay
2. Add water just below the clay level
3. Leave it to slake overnight
4. Mix the clay using the drill attachment
5. Place the clay on the plaster slab
6. Let it dry to the consistency you desire
7. Take it off the plaster and wedge
