Why do we use cottle boards
We use cottle boards for mold making and slip casting. If you have a model that you would like to make into a mold you need to have a “box” surrounding your model that you can pour the plaster into. Here is how to make cottle boards.
Making Cottle Boards
- Clamps
- Four 6″ 1 1/2-2′ long by 6” or 10” high good quality plywood like oak laminated or birch
- Four 2 by 2-inch stock
- Wood Glue
- 4 clamps
- Drill
- Glue and Drill each of the stocks to one end of each of the 4 plywood boards making sure that it is true and flush on the edges of each piece of plywood
- Clamp the stocks flush to the edge of the board so that it is completely flat
- After it dries drill a few nails into it
