Frozen Pond Technique

Frozen Pond Technique was invented by Kathy McGuire. It is a cool glazing technique that you can add to your piece. It looks like pools of water on a black background. It is a really cool technique.

Materials Needed

  • Bisque Plate (Something flat is much better for this technique)
  • Running Hot Chowder
  • Obsidian or a black glaze that is “stable” (does not move)
  • Glaze of your choice that does not move
  • Brush (I like sumi Brushes)

Instructions

  1. Dip or pour Obsidian onto your plate
    • If you brush add 1 coats of Running Hot Chowder (RHC) to your plate
  2. Use a Sumi brush to make circles and add 2 coats of Running Hot Chowder (RHC) to your plate
  3. Add a stable glaze to the top of your piece
    • I have not tried glazes with speckles or crystals in it so experiment
  4. Add it to your glaze fire and watch the magic happen!!!
