Slip Transfers

Materials Needed

  1. Slip Applicator
  2. Slip
  3. Newsprint
  4. Scissors
  5. Different Textures/texture mats optional
  6. Underglaze Chalk optional
  7. Grater optional
  8. Pony Roller
  9. Sponge
  10. Container of water

Steps

  1. Use the slip applicator to draw designs on the newsprint
    • Remember things are done in reverse. The first thing you put down on the paper is the background of your image
  2. You can use different textures to create depth and contrast by painting under and over the stencil to create resists you can also grate the chalk on top to create cool designs
  3. Let it dry
  4. Gently paint a layer of slip onto the newsprint this will be the background of your image
  5. Cut the newsprint design out
    • If you have a curved piece you may need to cut some slits in the bottom and top to get it to go around the piece
  6. Add a layer of background colored slip, to rewet the design
  7. Use the pony roller to laminate the slip onto the piece
